Crandon Park Beach, two miles of Florida’s whitest sand beach, forming a lagoon with some of the clearest turquoise waters to be found, is protected by an offshore sandbar keeping the waters calm, it’s no wonder Crandon Park Beach has been named one of the top 10 beaches in the United States.
Situated on the northern tip of awe-inspiring Key Biscayne, the park occupies a onetime coconut plantation, once home to pirates, soldiers and Indian tribes, Crandon Park Beach, hemmed in by the Atlantic Ocean to the east, Biscayne Bay to the west and the Key Biscayne Village to the south is not only known for its beach.

Visitors to Crandon Park Beach can explore the dunes, mangroves, coastal hammocks and sea grass beds making up the flora and fauna of the island. The park has become a favorite for observing herons, ospreys and many brilliantly colored butterflies. The park is also home to rare and exotic plants like the beach peanut and Biscayne prickly ash. The beautiful sandy beach, coastal dunes are known for their nesting sea turtles, with mangroves and tropical hardwood hammocks providing nesting and feeding grounds for migrating songbirds, hawks and Florida’s bird population. Sea grass beds make a great habitat for mangrove snapper, parrotfish, and puffer fish as well as bottom feeders such as crabs, shrimp, and starfish.
The Bear Cut Preserve located in Crandon Park is a designated natural Environment Study Area; Miami-Dade Parks’ has nature guides that give guided tours throughout the Preserve, exploring the hammock, ocean and beach communities that the park has to offer.
Just off the beach is the Crandon Family Amusement Center, a 1949 carousel, beachfront playground and an outdoor roller rink. Located nearby is the tennis center, home to the Lipton and Nasdaq Tennis Tournaments. A public golf course and a marina are located in the Crandon Beach Park boundaries.
