Costa Rica is located on the Isthmus of Central America, bordered on the North by Nicaragua and Panama to the South. To the west you will find the Pacific Ocean and to the East is the Caribbean Sea. Costa Rica lies in the Northern and Western Hemisphere with the Capital of San Jose being at 9º55’N, 84º 05’W.
The mountains of Costa Rica climb to a height of 12500 ft (13820 meters) with the highest being Cerro Chirripo, giving it the rank of the 5th highest mountain in Central America. Volcano Irazu is the tallest volcano in Costa Rica at a height of 11257 ft . Volcano Aranel is the most active of volcanoes in Costa Rica.
Climate in Costa Rica varies from and average of 70º in the mid elevations such as San Jose to 80º along the Caribbean coastline to mid to upper 80’s along the Pacific Coastline.
The country receives an annual average rainfall of nearly 100 inches year. With the largest concentration being along the Caribbean coastline. The year is usually described as 2 seasons, the wet season (green season) running from May till November and the dry season running from December till the end of April.
With the mixture of large amounts of rain and High Mountains, Costa Rica is not only known for its world renowned Tropical Rainforest and Eco Tourism, but also Whitewater Rafting, hiking, jungle tours (canopy tours) and large National Park System. You will find that Costa Rica having over 1000 miles of coastline will provide unlimited water adventures ranging from sunbathing, diving to sport fishing.
